The most exciting part about attending PromaxBDA each year is seeing whose work takes home the gold. (Fingers crossed for all of our partners!)
PromaxBDA’s Promotion Marketing and Awards honors and celebrates outstanding achievements in entertainment marketing from around the world. It’s the most popular competition among our partners at Brave Dog, and this year we processed approximately 700 entries for our clients.
But the ceremony isn’t the only thing to get excited about. The entire week leading up to the final awards ceremony is the PromaxBDA Conference, which takes place June 11-14 at the New York Hilton in Midtown, New York City, includes loads of other potential rewards. (And we’re not even talking about the events that have an open bar.)
There are mixers, panels, speakers, client/agency “speed dating,” the annual State of Our Art and more. It’s a week packed with an abundance of inspiring and innovative presentations and experiences to learn from. And unfortunately, it’s impossible to check out everything. How do you get the most out of your $1,595 badge? What should you plan to attend and why?
The awards experts at Brave Dog have blocked out our Google Calendars with what we feel will be the most exciting, interesting and valuable sessions that anyone with a conference badge can attend — here our top eight activations for Promax 2018.
Maybe we’ll see you there!
- Details of the following activations are subject to change. Check back often with the Promax app or website for the most current list of scheduled events.
- This list does not include invite-only events.
- Promax requests that if attendees choose to move between rooms during a session block, to please try to avoid disturbing the speakers and fellow attendees.
- For more information about registration and the conference, visit the PromaxBDA Conference website.
9 a.m.- 1p.m., New York Hilton Midtown (Exact location TBA)
We’re most excited about this “conference within a conference” kick-off because F5 is helping infuse “creativity and inspiration” back into the BDA. The lineup includes world-class designers and visual storytellers alongside scientists, writers, comedians and technologists. Bringing together the thinkers and doers that are breaking ground and shaping new standards in media and design, F5 is unbridled creativity in multiple forms.
Plus, Ashley, our director of sales, can’t stop talking about the pop up’s special guest EXTRAWEG—a visual artist who uses surreal animation to transform familiar, everyday imagery into the abstract. You can check out his work on Instagram: @extraweg.
PopUpF5 registration is free for PromaxBDA members. However, this event did sell out fast – you can join the waitlist by going here: www.eventbrite.com/e/popup-f5-at-promaxbda-registration-45705605697
In Conversation with Laura Dern & Tarana Burke
4-6 p.m., New York Hilton Midtown, Grand Ballroom
Laura Dern galvanized Hollywood with her Golden Globe acceptance speech urging “restorative justice” in response to abuse and bullying in the entertainment industry and beyond. Tarana Burke has been reshaping our consciences for decades as a civil right activist and the founder of the Me Too Movement. PromaxBDA hosts these two inspiring women as they discuss women’s equality, empowerment, expression, and influence.
Amy Robach, Co-Anchor, “20/20”
Tarana Burke, Activity, Senior Director, Girls for Gender Equity
Laura Dern, Emmy Award-Winning Actor
(This session appears to immediately follow Industry Close-Up: Now/New/Next with Amazon Studios and Why Beauty Matters: The Emotive Impact of Space + Place, which are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom)
Opening Night Party
8-10 p.m., Gustavinos
Located at: 409 E 59th Street (between First and York Avenues)
A few years ago we sipped colorful cocktails and munched on artistic hors d’oeuvres alongside dinosaur bones. Last year, networking felt a little extra magical when we had Universal Studios’ Wizarding World of Harry Potter all to ourselves.
The Promax opening night party is pretty much always a noteworthy occasion and this is especially due to its dramatic backdrops. This year’s party takes place at New York City landmark and architectural masterpiece, Gustavinos. We’re looking forward to meeting everyone under the gorgeous soaring granite arches and Catalan vaulted tile ceiling.
(Note: Conference badge required for entry — PromaxBDA attendees only.)
PromaxBDA Global tier members (formerly Executive Members) are invited to attend with one guest. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Branding the Future…Of Content Delivery
2 p.m.-3 p.m., New York Hilton Midtown, Sutton North
Things are always changing. Brands need to be constantly evolving to keep pace with the markets they serve. It takes a lot to launch a successful re-brand: vision, strategy, insight, consensus, commitment and of course: killer creative. This panel takes a close-up look at what goes into re-branding and how to make it to work for you.
Caitlin’s very passionate about rebrands—and there are a number of people on this panel who we trust to have valuable insight on the subject. Especially excited to hear more about this past year’s SYFY rebrand.

Hot Spots Showcase

Outside of the awards ceremony, there’s another opportunity for great work to be seen at Promax. The Hot Spots session, in which Promax shows off some of the coolest spots of the year. It’s an extension of Hot Spots feature that appears each month on Promax’s Daily Brief website. If your stuff’s here, you’ll be proud. If not, maybe a little envious. (Better luck next year!) Either way, hopefully you’ll walk away feeling entertained and inspired.
