San Diego International Comic-Con has become the biggest pop culture extravaganza in the world since its original inception in the 1970s, and as such, it sees some incredible brand activations and marketing ideas every year — in addition to giving back a lot to fans who attend.
Comic-Con runs a number of other conventions under its big umbrella, and one might consider California-based Wondercon, which often takes place in Anaheim near Los Angeles, to be a smaller version of the huge yearly event in San Diego. This year, Wondercon took place at the LA Convention Center, and Brave Dog was there to check out the cool booths, interesting activations, and awesome fan giveaways.
Check out this quick video of the show floor we created during the event:
Pop culture fans of all stripes were treated to a number of cool experiences on the exhibition floor. Gamers could check out the upcoming Starfox Zero at Nintendo’s booth:
And battle it out in “Street Fighter V” at the Capcom booth.
Nickelodeon was on-hand to engage with fans of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” with a host of cool opportunities. Statues of the turtles from the upcoming “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” were great for a photo op, and visitors could check out the upcoming video game “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan” at the booth as well. There was also panel featuring stars Megan Fox and Stephen Amill and producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.
We also got a load of a huge ad at the Image Comics booth for Syfy’s adaptation of “Wynonna Earp!”
Among the cooler retail activations on the floor, a place that’s awash with opportunities to buy things, was Disney’s Music Emporium. The booth featured a wealth of Disney soundtracks on vinyl, including the score from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Comic-Con itself featured a fascinating “Comic-Con HQ” booth that ran down the history of San Diego International Comic-Con and Wondercon, with informative plaques, a fun wall where fans could leave their names or drawings, and an Instagram photo printer that worked with the hashtag #WonderconCCHQ.
At Brave Dog, we’re always on the lookout for great marketing, content and experiential activations — because we’re always looking for the next award-winning entry, or cool ideas that can help our clients succeed. Stay tuned later this year for our look at San Diego Comic-Con in July!
