Mid-May may be a generally quiet time for awards competition deadlines.
But we’re still prepping for what often turns out to be a very busy summer for our clients. We’ve put together an awards “hit list” for summer and have included some of each competition’s most important details. (Feel free to add some dates to your calendar!)
There’s still time for you to enter the biggest name in advertising awards, The CLIO Awards—the final deadline falls on June 17. There are now more opportunities than ever to grab up one of these exclusive, high honors. The CLIO Awards categories encompass just about every medium in the world of advertising.
For something a little more specific, there’s CLIO Music, which offers an opportunity for you to be acknowledged for clever use of music in advertising. The competition’s final deadline is also June 17, so get your entries ready!

Just after the final deadline for the CLIOs comes the first entry deadline for the CLIO Key Art Awards. And I know what some of you may be thinking—what’s the difference between the CLIO Awards and the CLIO Key Art Awards?
The biggest differences come down to scope of budgets and range of competitions. The CLIO Awards recognize the biggest agencies: campaigns with Super Bowl-level budgets. It also includes the entire world of advertising, not just entertainment, so the competition is fierce and includes big names like American Express, Nike, Google, Coca Cola and General Motors. We usually advise clients looking to enter the CLIOs to stick with few, highly refined entries and to have a polished recap video to present to judges. The CLIO Awards is one of the toughest competitions out there to win, but coming away with any kind of accolade is a very big deal.
CLIO Key Art Awards entrants are usually on more equal footing in terms of budgets, resources and creative mandates, and the competition focuses on the world of entertainment marketing—television, film and video games. Entries are less tedious than the CLIOs, and are more comparable to PromaxBDA than, say, Cannes Lion. Where few of our clients, who are mostly in the entertainment marketing sphere, might enter the CLIOs, nearly all of clients enter the CLIO Key Art Awards.
