Award competitions and all its associated hype, bombast, pizzazz, glitter and red carpets can sometimes seem phony and superficial — just another excuse for self-aggrandizement from winners, gripes from losers, and media overload for the rest of us.
WHY DO WE DO THIS? DO AWARDS REALLY MATTER?
In our opinion, they really do. Beneath all the noise and the tinsel, there’s a core of pure gold. If you strip away all the “stuff” that we associate with awards, we believe you’ll find a real and true search for excellence and a need to have metrics to gauge it. Perhaps most importantly, competitions help set best practices that continually raise the bar for everyone.
Yes, we compete with one another. But these award competitions are treasure troves of brilliant creative solutions that are truly inspiring. Competition spurs people to do even better work. Awards matter because, even for those of who aren’t interested in accolades, recognition pushes us all to strive toward excellence — something that can benefit everyone.
